The new Spring/Summer Valentino collection, designed by artistic director Pierpaolo Piccioli, is on show at Paris Fashion Week and is Haute Couture in the name of inclusion and the beauty of diversity.
Models of all ages, sizes, ethnicities and genders descended the large spiral staircase leading from the tailor’s shop to the salons of the Place Vendôme atelier.
Drapes, ruffles, inlays, bows, bias cuts and honeycomb embroidery alternating with sculpted tops, long dresses with chiffon wings from the shoulders, ball gown skirts, red carpet tails and voluminous taffeta capes.
A collection entitled Anatomy of Couture: “The body, and the female body in particular,” says Piccioli, “is both a material fact and a cultural construct, whose canons of beauty change through the ages, imposing now a tense verticality, now a soft horizontality, celebrating and preferring certain parts of the anatomy to others.”
